On Friday 5th May 2000 I went to Cheltenham's Town Hall for the third time in a week. This time it was to see a ROLLING STONES Tribute Band called THE COUNTERFEIT STONES.
The show started off with a video of them in a retirement home remembering the old times, and then the years went back and the band came on stage and started to perform tracks like IT'S ALL OVER NOW, LITTLE RED ROOSTER, I JUST WANT TO MAKE LOVE TO YOU, GET OFF OF MY CLOWD, LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER, an excellent version of RUBY TUESDAY (complete with Recorder), JUMPING JACK FLASH, IT'S ONLY ROCK 'N' ROLL, ANGIE, YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT (on which the crowd had to help out), and START ME UP, to name but a few.
During the performance there were several costume changes during which we watched more videos which refleted the period of time that the band were about to perform.
At one point in the show I thought they were so close to the originals I could not believe that they weren't miming.
The show ended with (I CAN'T GET NO) SATISFACTION, which certainly was not the case.
After the show I met and spoke to members of the band.
